Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra

The Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra (BLYSO) is a unique musical group that combines the beauty of Buddhist music along with classical Western music. It was formed in 1993 with the hope of spreading our joy of the Dharma sounds. As word is getting around about this special group, more people are becoming interested in the orchestra’s distinctive style.

Besides performing at regular concerts in the temple, BLYSO members have also played at events such as “An Interfaith Concert Celebrating Diversity and Unity Through Music” at the Wilshire Christian Church, the Pacific Asia Museum, the Chinese Cultural Center, and the Prayer for World Peace Ceremony at Hsi Lai Temple. BLYSO small group members also participated in community service with different BLIA subchapters to perform at local convalescent and nursing homes.

In the year 2005, BLYSO had a successful Taiwan and Japan Winter Concert Tour which included a visit to FGS Headquarters as well as a performance in the Buddha Museum. They have also performed at California’s Disneyland in 2016. BLYSO also hosts a Winter Music Camp open to all young musicians.

Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra is now recruiting young musicians up to 25 years old who play string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments (not including Saxophone and piano.)
