Meditation Retreats

The temple offers one, two, and seven-day meditation retreats throughout the year. While a one-day retreat is open to beginners with basic experience, seven-day retreats require extensive meditation experience. A typical meditation retreat involves multiple meditation sessions per day, alternating between sitting and walking. There may also be workshops on stretching exercises, tea meditation, and sutra transcription.

Meditation retreats use a strict, regimented lifestyle to provide opportunities for mindfulness. In addition to staying focused on the cushion, participants are expected to remain mindful during silent meals and chores, in every step and every breath.

While meditation is an effective method to relieve stress and promote emotional and spiritual well-being, the temple does not recommend meditation retreats as an alternative to professional therapy.

We encourage participants to try the one or two-day retreats before joining us for a seven-day retreat. Meditation retreats are held completely in English and silence is observed throughout the duration.
